A useful project notebook

Before the first roll
is opened.

Choosing wallpaper is a creative decision. A few practical questions help the design, the material and the wall work together.

Unfurnished room with a full wall of illustrated garden mural wallpaper and dark wood flooring.

A sample lets you see color, scale and texture in the room’s own light. Check it against the furniture and the wall, not only an image on a screen.

Ordering and installation are easier to discuss when the exact product specification is available. You can call before you reach that point.

Pattern & quantity

A repeat changes
the calculation.

A roll’s stated coverage is not always the usable coverage for your wall. Matching a design, trimming at top and bottom and working around openings can use additional material. The repeat size and match type matter alongside wall dimensions.

A larger motif may also change where a pattern begins. Ask about layout before treating a quick area calculation as a final ordering quantity. Check the product’s roll dimensions, batch information and supplier guidance.

Surface suitability

A smooth look
is only a start.

Paint condition, wall texture, repairs and leftover adhesive can affect the next covering. Let us know if the wall has old wallpaper, flaking areas or a recent coating. That helps frame the preparation discussion.

Persistent moisture or loose substrate should not simply be covered over. The cause and required work need to be understood. For self-adhesive products, the manufacturer’s paint-finish and curing requirements are especially important.

Material character

Know what the paper
is meant to do.

Different coverings can look similar in a photograph but behave differently during fitting and care. A woven texture may be printed, embossed or made from natural fibers. Each has its own instructions.

Natural grasscloth may show variations and visible paneling. Some products allow certain cleaning methods; others should not be wiped or scrubbed. Read the actual specification rather than borrowing assumptions from another wallpaper.

A complete image

A mural has
a defined composition.

Check the finished image dimensions and panel order, along with any cropping or trimming instructions. Think about furniture and openings that may conceal part of the design.

A mural’s focal point needs to work with the wall you have. It is useful to discuss that placement before ordering, especially when the supplied image is sized to a specific surface.

What helps with a more detailed estimate?

Start by calling or sending a simple inquiry. These details can help later, when you have them:

  • The project city and whether you are planning one wall, one room or several areas.
  • Approximate wall dimensions, ceiling height and significant openings.
  • The chosen material or product link, including its repeat and hanging method.
  • The existing wall condition, old covering and any known preparation needs.
  • Access to the space and arrangements that could affect the work.

Photos and measurements are optional aids, not a prerequisite to contact. You may ask whether an on-site inspection or measurements can be arranged; availability and any arrangements must be confirmed.

Questions worth asking

A little clarity
before ordering.

Should I order before talking to an installer?

You can discuss the intended covering and wall first. That can reveal questions about quantity, suitability or layout before an order is final. Supplier and manufacturer guidance still govern the product itself.

Does peel-and-stick work on textured walls?

Not necessarily. Surface requirements differ by product, and a visible texture can reduce contact or show through. Check the manufacturer’s instructions and test guidance rather than treating “peel-and-stick” as a universal solution.

What makes estimates differ?

Wall area is only part of the scope. Material handling, pattern matching, height, access and removal or preparation needs can change the work. A project conversation is more useful than a single generic price per roll.
